For the past couple of days I have been trying to come to terms with the fact that I now have gestational diabetes. Quick lesson......during pregnancy the placenta creates all different hormones that help the baby develop but these hormones can also create insulin resistance in some woman (lucky me!). Currently my levels are low enough that I can control my blood sugar levels with a strict diet. I have to eat 4 times a day with a specific amount of carbohydrates, so I have started measuring my food and reading labels. I also have to check my blood sugar levels 4 times a day by pricking my finger, my dislike for needles will have to take a backseat.
At first all of this was so overwhelming that I couldn't even talk about it without crying (yes, I even had a melt down in the doctors office.....looks like I need to bring treats for my next appointment), but I am starting to feel better about everything.
Thank you to my wonderful hubby who is patient enough to walk around a grocery store for hours helping me put together meal plans. I love you so much!
Another thank you goes out to my parents. Those phone calls mean more than you know!
Kristen - it sounds like you are handling everything with such strength (which doesn't surprise me. Cerone? Strong?). Props to you for working so hard during this time. We're here if we can do anything to help!
